Library Media Materials Challenges

A parent/legal guardian, resident of the county, or current school board member may challenge library media materials including books, ebooks, periodicals, and videos accessible to students in the media center, classroom, or on reading lists.

View School Board Policy IJL - Media Center Materials Program, Selection, and Challenges, which details the library media challenge process, for more information.

Reconsideration of Media Materials

A parent/legal guardian, resident of the county, or current school board member who has a concern with the use of library media materials must first request, in writing, a conference with the principal to discuss the use of the challenged material. If the concern is not resolved at the conference, parent/legal guardian, resident of the county, or current school board member must complete the Request for Reconsideration of Media Center Materials or Other Reading Materials form.

Reconsideration Requests

The District must keep record of all Requests for Reconsideration that highlight the specific objections, the result of the reconsideration request, and the grade level or course for any library media materials that were removed or discontinued.
