Principal's Message

Welcome To Edgewater High School!
"The Pride of College Park and Orlando"

Principal Dr. Alex Jackson
Edgewater High School's leadership team with Jackie Steward-Garcia (EHS Teacher of the Year) and Valerie Lopez (EHS Support Person of the Year) at the 2025 OCPS Stellar Awards. Orange County Public Schools honored 500 teachers, educators, and leaders at this year's Stellar Awards ceremony.

One of my favorite quotes by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. states, “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.”

Last week, I wrote how I wanted to embody the principles of servant leadership and Dr. King's quote emphasizes the universal accessibility of greatness through service. Here's a breakdown of how it relates to servant leadership:

Universal Potential for Greatness: "Everybody can be great because everybody can serve." This highlights that greatness is not limited to a select few but is attainable by anyone willing to serve others. Servant leadership is about empowering and uplifting others, which is a path to true greatness.

No Special Qualifications Needed: "You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve." Dr. King underscores that serving others does not require formal education or perfect skills. Servant leadership is about the willingness to help and support others, regardless of one's background or qualifications.

Heart and Soul: "You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love." The essence of servant leadership lies in compassion, empathy, and love. A servant leader leads with a genuine desire to serve, driven by grace and love for others.

In summary, Dr. King's quote encapsulates the core principles of servant leadership: inclusivity, humility, and a heartfelt commitment to serving others. It reminds us that true leadership is not about power or status but about making an impact through selfless service.
